Few architects are able to dramatically merge spaces, but
Alberto Apostoli
struck gold when he was asked to design a Spa for the Poiano
Resort. The
project was unique from the start, and manifested the language of an
extraordinary territory...
Handed a picturesque setting in the hills above the town of Garda in Italy, with
views of the lake providing a
natural background, the challenge was to
develop this spectacular location alongside a contemporary design. Alberto with
his experience in the wellness industry did not take long fortifying a plan,
where dualistic axiom of wellness and nature stood side-by-side. The final
product is a spa, rich in views, seemingly in continuous dialogue with the
outside world.

For Alberto,
wellness is a total experience, not to be separated from the location. The
ethos of this statement finds a direct take in the entrance, which is highlighted
by a wall made of local stone, by local craftsmen in the traditional local
technique; windows of different sizes filter the view to the pool area, almost
instantly captivating the visitor. The space takes on a different atmosphere during the
day, with natural light filtering through; while at night, the pool is lit
internally with different colours.

As for the Spa,
the double glazed sauna is divided internally by a glass wall and so are the four
showers in the front . This accentuates the overall space. This area is a series
of suggestions and atmospheres all highlighted by the combined use of different
materials coordinated in a refined format.

The treatment
rooms were designed in coordination with the spa manager in order to optimize
the treatment menu by having warm colours, soft lighting and textured treatment
of doors and walls. The relaxation area is minimal; almost monastic, to give a
feel of rejuvenation without clutter.

Alberto creates
a space, where it is difficult to perceive the boundaries of the individual
functions. He has achieved this by using stone, textured surfaces, natural
colours, wood and glass: a very contemporary vocabulary in a traditionally-rooted
engagement.
Impressive spaces and designs! Very unique architectural masterpiece.
