Imagine living in the heart of the city
with all amenities at arm’s length; and the added bonus of the luxuries of country
living! Ar. Idoia Otegui of i! arquitectura makes this a
realty in Madrid…
It is often said that we cannot have it
all and that we always desire what we don’t have. But sometimes, it happens…
sometimes dreams come true.
This
chalet in Madrid is situated on the twelfth floor in a 1960’s tower. Typical of a chalet, the apartment has two
levels and is accessed via a beautifully landscapes garden on all sides that
steps up to a wooden deck with a kidney-shaped roof-top swimming pool reminiscent
of kind in decadent American road motels.
The house
has a built-up area of 80 sq. m. across both floors. Open to the elements on
all sides, the ground floor houses a living room with a marble chimney and a
wooden boiserie and directly exits to the garden. An open kitchen is flanked by
an exterior dining space. A spacious bedroom with ensuite dressing room; a
bathroom and a terrace both with views of the Madrid Mountains complete the
ensemble.
The
little country-style home is highlighted by its simplicity and pragmatism; its
appeal lay in its doll-house like interiors and almost dream-like vistas, high
above amidst the sky.
Spiral
stairs lead to the floor above, landing into the heart of the house - a subtle
cosy space - a padded octagon with 360º windows to sit down, meditate, read,
hold meetings, for nothing, to contemplate Madrid as if we were a fish eye!
The
little home offers marvellous 360º views of the city despite its central
location, complete with a pharmacy and bar, literally at its feet!
