A simple two-storeyed home in Amsterdam stands out for its unusual treatment. i29 interior architects, known for their sagacity in design and their expertise in juxtaposing simplicity with contradiction, have just endorsed this very skill in designing this abode.

Endowed with many rooms but scarce daylight, the rented apartment lacked character. Working on the simple principle of letting in plenty of natural light, the architects have reconfigured the spaces anointing them with a minimalist palette of oak wall panels, white plastered walls, dark blue furniture pieces and light grey synthetic floors.

An integrated wall cabinet stands out as the highlight of the home, organising the living, kitchen and dining area in one large gesture. Several functions are integrated in this piece such as storage space, a television cabinet and a custom designed kitchen, which can be hid-den behind two large sliding panels. A contrasting black kitchen island combined with a centrally-positioned large, high table demarcates the space, whist furniture pieces in black and dark blue tones are in contrast with the light airy space.

The floor above houses two bedrooms and a bathroom in an all-white palette complemented by rough oak flooring, sustaining the design vocabulary of the rest of the apartment.

The 120 sq. m. home comes alive in a simple uncharacteristic flourish of spatial flow and minimalist intervention of colour, form and material.
