The Aura of a Stately Abode

A-cero Architects’ design of a stately home in Madrid speaks volumes about its up-to-the-minute profile through a strong architectural and interior vocabulary...

Remarkable volumes in stone overhangs and large glass panels in black are a signature design element of A-cero Architects. Looking a little away from this signature but still within its parameters, their latest residential project of 1250 sq. m. built on a plot of 1,700 sq. m. is a robust orthogonal design in limestone and black glass enclosed by a fence in stone and black galvanised steel.

Sitting snugly amidst a well-manicured garden that perfectly complements the architectural vocabulary of the home; the structure exudes an aura of stateliness hinting at holding a lot within its august confines.  The architectural form tends to flow freely, wrapping the four sides of the home in firm straight planes, intercepted boldly and beautifully by large black glass panels; the wrap metaphoric to a flat open-ended ribbon!

The large and imposing entrance door in its exclusive design in black glass and steel opens to interiors that come alive with a large double-height space, abundant luminosity, simplicity and an arresting spiral staircase in white that is the perfect adjunct to the glass elevators that connect the three floors.

While public spaces are configured on the ground floor with the living room and kitchen connected to the porch and pool areas via large sliding windows, the floors above are reserved for bedrooms and kids’ playroom. There are five bedroom suites with ensuite bathrooms, and a large master bedroom with separate dressing rooms and a spacious bathroom.

The interiors are raised to high standards of quality finishes, stone or wood floors and lacquered paint on walls – holistically, we see a decoration program that is very content and uncluttered but also stylish and interesting.  Sobriety prevails except for a splash of understated colour in the kids’ areas.

The program is replete with cinema room, home office, indoor pool, sauna, gym, service area, garage and other perfunctory areas and amenities. The whole house is equipped with advanced automation solutions.
