Ar. Zaha Hadid adds on to her 2012 Liquid Glacial furniture collection for an ongoing show at David Gill Gallery, London.

Liquid Glacial is Zaha’s series encompassing tables, stools, a chair and centrepieces that each resembles ice-formations. Their geometries appear transformed from solid to fluid by the subtle waves rippling below the surface.

Starting out with the Liquid Glacial tables (dining and coffee tables) in 2012 especially for the David Gill Gallery, Zaha had chiselled the pristine geometry of the flat table top to appear fluid and seemingly pour from the horizontal through an intense vortex to culminate in the legs. The polished clear plexiglass, or simply transparent acrylic material amplified this perception. The coloured pieces radiated light from the base of the legs throughout the work via a series of refracted shards, which continually realigned as the viewer walked around the table.

Taking the thought further, Zaha has now enhanced the collection with stools, a chair and centerpieces that embed formal complexity and refraction within a powerful fluid dynamic. The result generates a wonderful surface dynamic that inherits a myriad of colours from its context and continually adapts with the observer's changing viewpoint. The form is of its creator; a design that does not compromise functionality or ergonomic requirements and a coherent evolution of Zaha's architectural narrative exploring movement through space.

The pieces can be displayed together in various configurations as a landscape frozen in time, or as stand-alone stalwarts. Hand-polished to a pristine finish, the collection is milled in clear and coloured acrylics that convey depth and complexity through an ever-changing kaleidoscope of refractions.
