crafts a typical American pizzeria in Russia, using the age-old Pompeian stove
in a linear vaulted space, reminiscent of the first pizzeria in New York!
Although
contemporary, Toropomodoro, as the pizzeria is christened, is a quaint antiquated
restaurant in Perm, Russia.
This linear space with a 100-year old vaulted ceiling and an absolutely rustic exposed-brick interior envelope plays host to mouth-watering pizzas. Designed by ALLARSTDESIGN studio, led by designer Saranin Artemy, the pizzeria references early twentieth century pizza eateries in America, where coal brick stoves were the highlight!
With significant
emphasis on the unique ovoid form of the Pompeian stove – the characteristic
hemispheric furnace oven, where hot air circulates bottom-up, baking the pizza
bread, flavouring it with its inimitable taste; the space is as rustic and
earthy as the intimate aromas it emanates.
The small interior
of 38 sq. m. is anointed with comfortable wooden chairs and cushioned sofas.
The open kitchen and sequential seating partitioned by functional open racks accentuate
the linearity of the restaurant, adding to its old-world charm. The exposed
bulbs and wiring, and the unkemptness of the interior are orchestrated to
authenticate the late nineteenth-early twentieth century era, when eateries
were culled out of simple natural materials like metal and American wood; where
a homely feel dominated the almost-organised chaos. The American wood used here
has especially been imported from the US of A to recreate the ambience!
Succeeding in its choreographed
earthy appeal, Toropomodoro stands out in the use of touches of monochrome and complimenting wall graphics in the arch of the washroom, where the
designer, Saranin Artemy has painted the ingredients of the pizza with a marker!
