Lucky for
men, the spring of 2015 looks bright. Fresh off the ramps of the recently
concluded Spring/Summer 2015 fashion weeks were new takes on staple pieces.
Conventional
suits were presented in a different light, while stripes and retro prints made
a huge comeback.
Denim was one
of the key fabrics seen across the SS15 collections. Presented in unusual
avatars, this trend was woven into signature men’s pieces ranging from
distressed denims to denim suits, and from denim-panelled pants, jackets and
shirts, to refined versions of the boiler suit.
In Paris, designers Kris Van Assche for Dior Homme showcased well-fitted denim jackets paired with pin-stripe trousers. At the London Fashion Week, James Long presented denims treated with a bohemian feel thanks to the haphazardly placed colourful ribbons. In Milan, Prada’s dark denim suits with clean white stitching proved that suits might soon be anything but conventional!
Louis
Vuitton, inspired by the majestic Indian state of Rajasthan and its history of
aviation, took luxury to an ethnic height with embellished denim boiler suits
in Paris.
A new take on the ubiquitous striped pattern was spotted at all of the three events. Thick and thin stripes came together at the Emporio Armani show, while Gucci kept it clean, tilting towards the evergreen nautical trend with navy vertical stripes in Milan. One saw a playful take on this trend at the Kenzo show in Paris that had bright stripes paired with sartorial standalone pieces.
Subtle prints
made way for larger-than-life bird and animal prints at the SS15 shows. A flamingo
print dominated Marc Jacob’s Milan show, while Salvatore Ferragamo opted for a
subtle take on this trend with a giraffe spot print in Milan. The Milan-based Roberto
Cavalli, well known for his love for animal prints, took this trend to an
exotic level with birds of paradise and palm tree prints.
A mixed bag
is predicted. Chic Vs. Bohemian; Dapper Vs. Strut-silly; and of course the
machismo is an inherent trait. 90s-inspired sneakers, Roman sandals treated
with a sporty twist, tasselled moccasins, cowboy boots, and classic black and
tan formal shoes paired with sharply tailored silhouettes. All in all, it
appears that we’re going to see the gentlemen with a spring in their step come
summer!
I can't decide if I find this ridiculous or hillarious.
